Biology

Shedinja is a brown and grey Pokémon, a husk left behind after Nincada evolves into Ninjask; it is created from the Nincada's shed exoskeleton. It has a hole between its wings, revealing that it is hollow inside without any internal organs. It has no gender, does not breathe, and floats without flapping its wings.

It is said that looking into the hole on its back can steal one's spirit.

Design & origin

Shedinja is based on the husk left behind by cicadas, the basis for Nincada's design, when they molt. Its name is a portmanteau of "shed" and "ninja". Its Japanese name, Nukenin, is a word meaning a ninja without a master or clan; specifically, "nukegara" translates as "husk", while "nukekawaru" translates as "to shed".

  6. SHEDINJA’s hard body doesn’t move - not even a twitch. In fact, its body appears to be merely a hollow shell. It is believed that this Pokémon will steal the spirit of anyone peering into its hollow body from its back.
