Biology
Slugma is a slug-like Pokémon. Its body is composed entirely of molten magma, which it uses as a circulatory system. It has to continue moving, as otherwise its body would cool and harden, causing chunks to fall off and decrease Slugma's size.
Slugma also has two flames atop its head, acting as feelers. Its evolution is Magcargo, a snail-like Pokémon.
Design & origin
Slugma's name is a combination of "slug" and "magma".
