Biology

Chandelure is the final evolution of Litwick, evolving from Lampent through use of the "Dusk Stone" item. Measuring 3 feet 3 inches (99 cm) tall, it gives off the appearance of a ghostly chandelier with large, round eyes, a stitched mouth, purple flames, and swingable arms. It haunts dilapidated mansions.

It absorbs a spirit, which it then burns, leaving the body behind. By waving the flames on its arms, it puts its foes into a hypnotic trance. The spirits burned up in its ominous flame lose their way and wander this world forever.

In homes illuminated by Chandelure instead of lights, funerals were a constant occurrence— or so it is said.

Design & origin

Designed by Ken Sugimori, Chandelure is based on a real chandelier. According to Sugimori, the Litwick family originally started off as a flame-candle-lamp evolutionary chain; he disliked the idea and later remade the candle form as Litwick. One possible hint at its origin is a chandelier within Game Freak's office space at Carrot Tower, which Junichi Masuda did not directly disprove as a possible inspiration.

Its concept may have also derived from tsukumogami, mythical spirits in Japanese folklore that possess tools.

HoldsChandelurite

Mega Chandelure resembles a larger, more extravagant and elaborate chandelier, adding another set of candles to the chandelier body, as well as a crown-like headpiece. One of its two eyes links directly to the afterlife, and it can draw in hatred to convert into power.
